Sonshine Child Care (SCC) is an outreach ministry of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church that began operation in 2000.  The purpose of SCC is to provide quality child care to the children and families of Yakima, Washington.  We are a Washington State-licensed, nonprofit organization and a self-supporting business.

The Early Childhood Board and Child Care Administrator are responsible for setting policies, establishing and managing the budget, maintaining the manuals and documents, as well as professional growth and development of our early childhood programs.  The Early Childhood Board meets to advise, discuss, and decide issues and policies in the areas mentioned above.

SCC offers a Christ-focused, child-centered program, which honors each child as an independent decision maker with valid thoughts and feelings.

Through a variety of hands-on experiences, our staff strives to help the Three children jumping rope

children build a confident and respectful understanding of themselves and the world around them, and to develop their decision making and problem solving skills in a loving and encouraging environment.

  • Students enrolled the childcare center may opt to participate in our preschool program for 2, 3, or 5 days a week. Students walk across to the main church building to attend preschool classes, and then return to the childcare center for the remainder of the day.
  • Older children who no longer nap may participate in additional activities in the afternoon.  We have a classroom for non nappers in our childcare facility, and also utilize our preschool classrooms during the afternoon for non nappers.  Students can participate in quiet activities and free play time with a staff member. We work with families to determine the best afternoon schedule for your child.

There is no greater task that parents, guardians, and teachers can undertake than the raising of children.  We at SCC take our responsibilities very seriously and strive to provide the best care possible.  Together with the children, we are consistently growing, learning, and changing.  We value your input to help us in your child’s life-long learning process.  We believe, that as parents or guardians you always remain the child’s number one teacher, while our intention is to support you in that role.  We appreciate your support for our part as well.
